My submission for the contest over at . We're supposed to design a yoshi/yoshies based on the elements. I love the elements myself, so naturally I had to take part. But the basic ideas... fire, wind, water, etc. were all done to death. So I figured I'd put a spin on the lot of them.

Soooo... I thought, I don't want to do a fire yoshi, etc. Okay, how about a similar "element" that can't exist without the base elements? Like jewels and ice and whatnot. So I took the idea and ran with it.

You need earth to get jewels, water to make ice, sort-of-fire to make light, though I guess electricity could produce it, too, but I never took that much chem/physics/whatever the hell science that falls into, so fire it is, and you need air molecules to make sound (and therefore music). Sound is essentially something that bumps air molecules around, and those molecules bump into the molecules next to them and start a chain reaction until it reaches the little hairs in our ears to produce the sensation we call sound. That's why there's no sound in space, if you didn't know.

I had so much fun designing the music yoshi and such a hell of a time coloring the ice yoshi. Music yoshi has all sorts of music tattoos with little bells and windchimes on her arms and legs, if you couldn't tell what those were. Her "hair" is supposed to be the lines on a music sheet -- the real term escapes me right now. EDIT: A stave! Thanks, MYC!

The light one is kind of a stretch, but I was thinking of the sun when I drew it, which is pretty much a big ball of fire. He doesn't look like a big ball of fire, though. He's just a yellow glowing yoshi. Woop. The earth one came out pretty awful.
